February, and the start of a new season. Summer comps were a little disappointing this year due in great part to the unusually hot weather. The odd days of overwhelming heat you expect, but I think we have had a little more than our normal share this season.
We finally got our previously postponed Rookies Ambrose played on Thursday 2nd February. I was really proud of the number of lady members that participat-ed. I know all the Rookies thoroughly enjoyed the day and the company. Thank you to all for making it such a good day.
Our official Opening day of the season was on Tuesday 7th February. We played a 3BBB v Par. The weather for the day was kind and although it looked as if we may get very wet, it pretty much held off until we all got in. It was great to see such a good field. Even though there was not a massive amount of golf played over the summer season, it certainly hasn’t harmed the golfing ability of some, as evident in the scores. Hope everyone enjoyed their day.
With the new season now commenced, there are a few events to be noted in the diary. CCWGA Open day will this year be held at Everglades on Monday 20th Feb-ruary. The field for this event is now full, but it was good to see so many of our Gosford ladies contributing to the district field. We kick off the start of our knock-outs on 30th March with the first round of the Fourball Best Ball knockout. This year the format will allow up to 2 weeks each round to organise and play your match. So no excuses, organise your pairs and put your names down. Matchplay is fun.
This year will also see a new competition, recommended by Norma Cubis at our AGM, called a Top Ten Shoot Out. This is an extended competition that will com-mence on Tuesday 7th March and will terminate with the final being played on Tuesday 31st October. A flyer will be circulated to explain the competition to you. There will be a separate cost to enter this competition as it is not part of our nor-mal program and hence would be unfunded. The cost has been set at $15 that must be paid prior to commencement.
Interclub Match Play (Pennants) will commence on Monday 27th March. The format will be as played in 2016. This new format proved very successful and a lot more interesting with the range of handicaps all combining in each of the pools. Once again we will be entering two teams, one in each pool. Please con-sider participating, it really is great for both you and your golf. Participating does not mean you are committed to all matches, you may only play one or two.
Sheets are out downstairs in the Ladies locker room for Fourball Knockout, Inter-club Match Play and Top Ten Shoot Out.
Here’s hoping for a great 2017 golfing season.
