Tommy’s Pro’s tip
With our recent wet conditions and rapid grass growth we will find ourselves playing out of some very thick rough once straying from the fairway. I commonly see members duffing shots from this thick grass and the main cause comes from there angle of attack. When your club arrives to the ball in a shallow arc you will commonly strike the thick grass first before the golf ball resulting in poor contact and direction.
When playing from this thick grass whether it be from 10 metres or 200 meters we need to get the club working vertically so that the club strikes ball first with all its force. When you find yourself in this situation your first move has to be a break of the wrist upwards allowing the club to move in a vertical fashion to allow us to deliver the club steeply and strike ball first.
The feeling of your hands moving upwards as apposed to rounded will give you that steep descending blow that we are after .
