Ladies Captain’s Report
The Covid 19 lockdowns lifted in 2022, but unfortunately the endless rain took its place, and put paid to several programmed events.
Our season began in February with a wonderful turn out on Opening Day. St Patrick’s Dice Day in mid-March was a success, we had a great field, and players wore green or orange in keeping with the Irish theme. The takings from the raffle went to the NSW Flood Appeal.
The CCWGA Pennant season kicked off in March, and for the first time in a while Gosford had two strong teams. Unfortunately, the weather made the re-scheduling of washed out matches impossible, and pennants was cancelled towards the end of May. As both teams had posted impressive results, this was a disappointing outcome for Gosford. Thanks to Sharon Anderson, Robyn Krahe and Sue Waugh for doing a wonderful job as the respective captains of Wattle and Banksia.
The 4BBB Knockout was another casualty of the rain and the popular Pro Shop Day was a wet affair with a small field. The Foursomes Championships went well, and Gosford also hosted the CCWGA District Foursomes in June. The Singles Knockout was completed in better conditions in July and August. The sun shone on Presidents versus Captains Day. There were no cancellations, the result was a draw and golf was the winner.
The Gosford Bowl, Bronze Salver and Long Markers Trophy were played for the first time since 2019. We had a field of around seventy players with thirteen visitors from local clubs. Open Day took place in September, and we raised $2200 for “Coast Can Care” the CCWGA charity, a terrific result. Thanks to Deb Flanagan and her team for the excellent organisation upstairs and for sourcing the fantastic raffle prizes. It was a great event.
Championships in October bring the major events for 2022 to a close.
I would like to thank all the Ladies who turn up every Tuesday and Thursday to support our competitions. Special thanks to those who have represented Gosford in Pennant teams, CCWGA events, and further afield in the Pewter Cup, Coronation Medal, and Bronze Salver. Our Patron June Bowen also deserves acknowledgement for her generosity.
My thanks to all the Lady members for their appreciation, unwavering support, and friendship. To the Ladies Section of 2022, every one of them has been a pleasure to work with, and I am so grateful for their efforts throughout the year. Special thanks to Sharon Anderson who is also stepping down, for her years of service as Secretary. I have thoroughly enjoyed my four years as Ladies Captain, andI wish our President Deb Flanagan and the new Ladies Section the best of luck for 2023.
Tom Ballard and the team in the Pro Shop deserve high praise. Tom has been a joy to work with, charming efficient and endlessly helpful.
Finally, a vote of thanks to the President Greg Harrison, the Captain Bob Thomas, the Board of Directors, the General Manager Kieran Moran, and Dave Nicholls and his green staff.
