A lot of members have been coming into the shop lately and complaining that they are wearing their gloves out too quickly and my response is always that you have an incorrect grip which is the cause of this.
Most club golfers start with the club on the ground in front of them to take their grip. The problem with this is the club naturally runs through the palm of their hands and in particular the heel pad on the left hand. This incorrect position creates a gap under the left pinkie and as a result the club moves during the swing and this rubbing then wears the glove out.
The other problem with this grip is that it doesn’t allow them you to hinge enough on the backswing. There are two ways you can fix this:
Extend your arm straight out in front of you with the club pointing straight up to the sky forming a 90degree angle between your left arm and the club. This will set the club in the fingers and expose your left heel pad.
The other way is to place the club on the ground in front of you turning the club 90 degree’s to the right which will run the leading edge parallel to the target line and then you take your grip. Once you have the grip into the fingers the club will not slip during the swing and your gloves will last a lot longer!!
Whoops I guess now our gloves sales will go down!!
