October already and what beautiful spring weather we have been having. It was a shame that the good weather was well and truly absent for the playing of the Bronze Medallion scheduled at Concord and Roseville on Friday 2nd September. The Medallion has been abandoned for 2016. The Coronation Medal was not so unlucky on Monday 12th, and our representatives – Chris Dekker and Rhonda Robertson played at Cumberland, and Lorraine Bignall and Sheena Asken played at Lynwood. All played well but unable to achieve a placing.
Rookie Mondays, a program to entice new lady members into golf began on September 5th. Being a totally new concept for Gosford, we were unsure as to the response it would receive. I am very happy to report that we had 21 ladies sign up for the program. They all seem very keen, and quite a number of the ladies have fantastic potential. Let’s hope that the majority of our Rookies eventually get a playing handicap and join our regular competition days.
Pro Shop day is always a popular day in our programme. I am always amazed at some of the scores recorded considering we are playing stroke off the men’s blue and white markers. Congratulations go to Sue Scobie – Division I, Glennis English – Division II, and Bere Hanley – Division III.
Our qualifying representatives in the 3BBB Gwen Thompson Shield played at Wyong on the 19th. Unfortunately did not come away with the shield, but certainly did the club proud. Better luck next year.
Invitation Day was a great success. We had a fantastic field of 96, which include 28 visitors. It was good to see at least one visitor in each winning team. Thanks go to the Social committee for the lovely morning tea that awaited all on arrival, to all our very generous members that contributed and bought from the splendid trade table, for all the wonderful donations to the raffles and last but not least to our popular Mitch Ballard for his professional driving off the 10th tee. A total of $1800 will be forwarded to our designated charity, Marie Lowndes Charitable Foundation. Thank you all for your unending generosity.
I can’t sign off without remembering the very memorable Maggie Minjoy. Although Maggie had been unwell for some time it was sad when she eventually lost her fight and passed away on Saturday 10th September. Rest in peace Maggie.
Thank you Ladies and good golfing
Rhonda Robertson – Ladies Captain
