October was a big month for golf with our ladies and mens Club Championships being run and won with a huge congratulation going to Sally Hopkins for taking out the ladies and Curtis Larnach for winning the mens.
Each month I am now doing a piece that is called “around the course” which is aimed at informing the members on what is currently being done and also what is being talked about and planned on the course for the future. This month we took off the plugged ball and mud adhered rule for all players when they’re off the fairway. We will asses the course on a daily basis and reinstate this rule when needed, so be mindful to always check the local rules board before teeing off.
In order to raise the DSR we have asked the green keepers to move the tees back and set the pins in more difficult positions. We have had a lot of positive feedback as the DSR is up and the scores have come down with the members saying they are enjoying the extra challenge.
The first of four sections of irrigation on the 11th hole has now been completed with the other three sections to be finished by the end of the year. The next project is to build a new ladies 9th tee as the tree roots have become a major problem in the existing one. The match committee has referred the state of the bunkers to the new greens committee and is waiting for their report. The fly traps have been set up and are now out on the course.
Just a reminder for all those players playing from the black markers could you kindly put a B on the top of your card.
I would like to thank Steve Fairnham for his idea of introducing a mystery card when playing in team events. This card has a predetermined score on it and acts as the groups extra player and can be used on any hole when needed. It is a great way of making it fairer for those groups that only have three players in it.
Pace of play is still an issue and you would have seen Graham and myself doing the rounds on the ranger cart. If you could be mindful to always keep up with the group in front in order for the field to hit off on time and make an enjoyable day for all members.
Cheers & Great golfing!
